Guidelines:
The Mirari Brass Quintet is pleased to announce its third Call for Scores. Composers are encouraged to submit a completed work for consideration, with the winning work to be programmed during our 2024-2025 concert season. This piece may also be featured on our upcoming album that will be recorded in early 2025. The composition must be written for the brass quintet (2 trumpets, 1 horn, 1 trombone, 1 tuba) and have been composed within the last 5 years (2019 to present).
The composer of the winning work will receive:
All submissions will be collected through a Google Form for the members of the Mirari Brass Quintet to review.
ELIGIBILITY:
1. Any composer is eligible regardless of age, nationality, sex, color, creed, sexual orientation, marital status, disability, or veteran status.
GUIDELINES:
1. Application Deadline: All entries must be submitted and fees paid by 11:59 pm EST on July 15th, 2024. Entries received after this date will not be considered.
2. The submitted work must have been written after July 1st, 2019. Works written before this date will not be considered.

FAQ:
Q: Can the piece be shorter than the designated time of 5 mins?
A: No. Every submission must have a duration 5 minutes or more.
Q: May I submit a work for other instrumentations?
A: No. Please submit works for two trumpets (Bb or C Trumpets), one horn, one trombone, and one tuba, only.
Q: I originally wrote a brass quintet before 2017 but made significant revisions after July 1st, 2019. May I submit this work?
A: Yes, you may submit a quintet that was revised after 2019 as long as the original work was composed after 2014.
Q: My brass quintet has already received its premiere and has been performed a few times. Am I still eligible to submit it?
A: Yes! We're accepting scores regardless of whether they are hot off the press or collecting dust on the shelf.
Q: I'm still working on my brass quintet, and I'm not sure when it will be finished. May I send you what I have?
A: Please only send completed works. Incomplete works will not be considered.
Q: Can I write for any other instruments like flugelhorn, euphonium, etc.?
A: Acceptable trumpet substitutions include the use of one (1) flugelhorn and/or one (1) piccolo trumpet. Please do not include a euphonium part or a tuba mute as we do not travel with these instruments/accessories.
- The composition should be a minimum of five (5) minutes in length with a piece not exceeding a maximum performance time of eight (8) minutes.
The composer of the winning work will receive:
- The winner will receive a concert premiere as well as a $750 grand prize.
- The winning composer will be provided with a recording, which will also be posted on our website and social media pages.
